Vol. 575 No. 3

Written Answers. - School Transport.

Jack Wall

Question:

188 Mr. Wall asked the Minister for Education and Science if a person, details supplied, in County Kildare can be facilitated with school transport to and from school; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [28199/03]

The pupil to whom the Deputy refers is ineligible for free transport to the school concerned, as she resides nearer to another school. However, concessionary fare-paying transport to the school may be allowed with the written agreement of the board of management of the nearest school, and on condition that there is room available on the service after all fully eligible pupils have been accommodated. The current charge for concessionary tickets is €26 per pupil per term.

The service to the school passes 2.1 miles from the pupil's home. As she is not fully eligible for transport to the school concerned, it is not open to my Department to sanction an extension or re-routing of service to facilitate her.
