Vol. 575 No. 3

Written Answers. - Special Educational Needs.

Cecilia Keaveney

Question:

191 Cecilia Keaveney asked the Minister for Education and Science the role music therapy will have in the context of the implementation of the Education for Persons with Disabilities Bill 2003; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [28269/03]

The Education for Persons with Disabilities Bill will be implemented over a timescale not exceeding five years from the establishment day of the National Council for Special Education under the Bill. Section 21 of the Bill provides that the council, after consultation with the consultative forum will advise me on the steps which should be taken to implement the Bill and will in doing so consider how the needs of children with special educational needs should be addressed in the period before full implementation. Music therapy is one of a range of measures which may be considered by the council in the context of implementation of the Bill.
