Written Answers. - School Accommodation.

Breeda Moynihan-Cronin

Question:

195 Ms B. Moynihan-Cronin asked the Minister for Education and Science the position with regard to the provision of funding to make safe the roof and playground at Lauragh national school, Killarney, following a visit to the school by an official from his Department recently; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [28288/03]

The school planning section of my Department is examining a report which was recently prepared by a member of my Department's technical staff following a visit to Lauragh national school, Killarney. A decision on the accommodation needs of the school will be taken on foot of this report and having regard to all other relevant factors. The timing of when any proposed building project can proceed at the school is dependent on the financial allocation for 2004 and subsequent years, the rate of progress of existing projects in architectural planning and the priority afforded to each project by reference to the published criteria for prioritising large-scale building projects.

Question:

196 Ms B. Moynihan-Cronin asked the Minister for Education and Science the position with regard to the provision of a general purpose room at Loughguitane national school, Killarney; if funding will be made available in the forthcoming budget; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [28289/03]

The school authorities of Loughguitane national school recently informed my Department that they wish to change their application for a general purpose room to an application for a classroom, due to an increase in pupil numbers. This new application will be considered in the context of the capital programme for 2004.
