Question:

204 Mr. Quinn asked the Minister for Education and Science if his Department has received a request for the allocation of a special needs assistant for a person (details supplied) in Dublin 4; if the application and psychological reports submitted are sufficient to make the decision on the allocation of a special needs assistant; the length of time it will be before a decision is made; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Applications for special educational needs supports received between 14 February 2003 and 31 August 2003 are being examined on the basis of the supporting professional report(s) and in the context of resources already available at the school. The process involves an examination of each application and supporting documentation by a dedicated team of inspectors and psychologists. I confirm that the application referred to by the Deputy is being considered by the dedicated team and the school concerned will be informed of the outcome as early as possible in the current school year.
