Vol. 575 No. 3

Written Answers. - School Transport.

Ned O'Keeffe

Question:

211 Mr. N. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will consider extending the school bus route for primary school children in an area (details supplied). [28392/03]

The children to whom the Deputy refers are eligible for school transport and reside 1.6 miles from the route of service to the school concerned. Children who live remote from the route of service may not always be accommodated with a nearer pick-up point, as the road network in the area may be unsuitable or the cost involved in extending or re-routing the service to accommodate them may be prohibitive. The position in this case is that an extension of service is not feasible as the road in question is not suitable for the type of bus used.
