Vol. 575 No. 3

Written Answers. - Mayo Landslide.

Michael Ring

Question:

251 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Health and Children if he received a copy of the report on the landslide in north Mayo; and the measures his Department is taking to compensate the householders in the area. [28326/03]

The payment of compensation on foot of natural disasters is not a matter for my Department.

On the provision of counselling services to people affected by the recent landslide, I understand from the Western Health Board that an officer of the board, together with a senior psychologist, attended a public meeting concerning the landslide in Pullathomas on 3 October 2003 and made themselves available for consultation with any member of the community who wished to do so. I also understand that the board has provided the local community with a contact number for counselling services if they wish to avail of them in the future.
