Vol. 575 No. 3

Written Answers. - Road Network.

Phil Hogan

Question:

259 Mr. Hogan asked the Minister for Transport if he will be supporting the provision of the necessary finance for the extension of the ring road at Kilkenny city in the 2004 Estimates; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [28115/03]

As the Deputy will be aware the planning, design and implementation of national road improvement projects is a matter for the National Roads Authority, NRA, and the relevant local authorities.

However I have made inquiries with the NRA and I understand the position on the extension to the Kilkenny ring road is that the contract documents for this scheme are nearing completion and that a railway works order necessary because the road is crossing a rail line will be prepared by the end of November 2003 for submission to the Department.

The allocation of funding for the project is a matter for the NRA and having regard to the funding available for the national road programme.
