Vol. 575 No. 3

Written Answers. - Refugee Status.

Gay Mitchell

Question:

288 Mr. G. Mitchell asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if all of the circumstances of a person (details supplied) in Dublin 8 who is seeking refugee status will be taken into account. [28150/03]

Under the Refugee Act 1996 two independent statutory offices were established to consider applications for refugee status and to make recommendations to the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform on whether such status should be granted.

The two offices are the Office of the Refugee Applications Commissioner that considers applications for a declaration of refugee status at first instance and the Refugee Appeals Tribunal that considers applications for a declaration at appeal stage. It is not the policy to comment on applications for refugee status. However, all applications are examined in accordance with the Refugee Act 1996, as amended.
