Vol. 575 No. 3

Written Answers. - Garda Prosecutions.

Denis Naughten

Question:

290 Mr. Naughten asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the number of parents or owners of vehicles that have been prosecuted by the Garda for allowing their vehicles to be driven by a provisionally licensed driver without being accompanied by a fully licensed driver; the Garda divisions involved; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [28175/03]

I am informed by the Garda authorities that the information sought in respect of parents or owners of vehicles who have been prosecuted for allowing their vehicles to be driven by a provisionally licensed driver is not readily available. The compilation of such figures would require a disproportionate amount of Garda time and resources that could not be justified

The following table gives the breakdown for the year 2002, by Garda division, on proceedings initiated against provisional driving licence holders driving while failing to be accompanied by a qualified driver.
