Vol. 575 No. 3

Written Answers. - Garda Deployment.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

320 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the action he proposes to take to increase the levels of policing with particular reference to tackling crime levels; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [28415/03]

I have been informed by the Garda authorities that the personnel strength of the Garda Síochána as at 19 November 2003 was 11,875. A further 164 probationer gardaí are due to be attested to the force on 27 November 2003 and allocated to their respective stations on 28 November 2003.

The Garda authorities are satisfied that Garda resources are appropriately deployed to address the various crime issues nationwide. Local and national Garda operations are constantly reviewed to ensure that their effectiveness is maximised.
