Vol. 575 No. 3

Written Answers. - Criminal Justice System.

Eamon Gilmore

Question:

73 Mr. Gilmore asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the action which has been taken arising from the collapse of the trial of a person in the Central Criminal Court on 3 November 2003, as a result of the failure of a number of witnesses to give evidence. [28235/03]

I refer the Deputy to my comprehensive response to Private Notice Questions of 4 November 2003 on this issue. I have been informed by the Garda authorities that the circumstances surrounding the collapse of the trial of a person in the Central Criminal Court on 3 November 2003 are currently the subject of a Garda investigation. A number of persons are currently before the courts on charges relating to this ongoing investigation.
