Vol. 575 No. 3

Written Answers. - Tribunals of Inquiry.

Jim Glennon

Question:

111 Mr. Glennon asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the legal costs incurred to date by the State in regard to both the Morris and Barr tribunals set up by order of the Oireachtas and currently running; and the estimated future liability for such costs. [23833/03]

The legal costs incurred to date in respect of the Morris and Barr tribunals are € 2.84 million and €1.72 million respectively. The future liability for legal costs associated with both tribunals cannot be determined at this stage. This is because it is unclear at this point how long the tribunals might sit and also because the question of whether individual parties represented before the tribunals are awarded their costs is, under the Tribunals of Inquiry Acts, a matter for the respective tribunals to decide, having regard to their findings in each case.
