Vol. 575 No. 4

Written Answers. - Departmental Investigations.

Fergus O'Dowd

Question:

125 Mr. O'Dowd asked the Minister for Health and Children if he will make a statement on the outcome of his recent meeting with Patient Focus. [28519/03]

The findings contained in the report of the Medical Council into the practice of Dr. Neary are disturbing and I have accepted that a further inquiry is required into the wider issues arising from this report. The format of the inquiry and its terms of reference are the subject of discussions between my Department and the Office of the Attorney General. I expect to be in a position to bring recommendations before Cabinet shortly in this regard. I met again with representatives from Patient Focus on 25 November 2003 and updated the group on the progress made to date in establishing the inquiry. I intend to have further discussions with the group in the coming weeks.
