Question:

90 Mr. Connaughton asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the funding made available in the mid 1990s to give humanitarian and other relief to flood victims in County Galway; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [28693/03]

The flood damage relief scheme was established in 1995 to compensate farmers in affected areas of County Galway who lost fodder or livestock in flooding in January or February 1995, and whose non-farm income did not exceed £15,000, €19,050, in the tax year ending 5 April 1994. The total amount paid under the scheme was £1,032,950, €1,311,578, to 1,532 approved applicants, representing an average payment of £678, €861.06.
