Vol. 575 No. 5

Written Answers. - Pension Provisions.

Ruairí Quinn

Question:

98 Mr. Quinn asked the Minister for Finance if he has received representations from the ASTI in respect of public service pensions for second level teachers; if, under the Programme for Competitiveness and Work, the issue of the entitlement to retire between the ages of 55 and 60 with 35 years' service, in lieu of salary increases, was determined and agreed; if the Government is committed to meeting these obligations; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [28668/03]

I confirm that I have received representations from the ASTI on the issue raised by the Deputy and related proposals in the report of the Commission on Public Service Pensions. I am considering the recommendations of the pensions commission and the report of the management-union working group which recently reported on implementation of the commission's recommendations. I have noted the points made by the ASTI and will bear them in mind in my consideration of the matter.
