Vol. 576 No. 1

Written Answers. - Services for People with Disabilities.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

241 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Health and Children if his attention has been drawn to the requests of the needs of people with disabilities as set out by the Centre for Independent Living; if he can address the issues raised and offer assistance as required; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [29089/03]

My Department recently received a document on the needs of people with disabilities, as set out by the Centre for Independent Living. The contents of the document will be examined in due course. In line with Government policy on mainstreaming services for people with disabilities, my Department now only deals with the provision of health and personal social services for people with disabilities. The transfer of responsibility for non-health related services to their mainstream Department has enabled them to be planned and delivered in a more inclusive manner.
