Vol. 576 No. 1

Written Answers. - Garda Stations.

Pádraic McCormack

Question:

282 Mr. McCormack asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the proposals he has for the building of a new Garda barracks on the east side of Galway city to serve the vastly expanding area between the east side of the city and Oranmore; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [28888/03]

John McGuinness

Question:

283 Mr. McGuinness asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the status of an application for family reunification in the name of a person (details supplied); if the application will be expedited; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [28913/03]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 282 and 283 together.

I am informed by the Garda authorities that there are no plans to build an additional Garda station to serve the area mentioned by the Deputy. The Garda accommodation at Oranmore, however, which is held on a yearly lease by the Office of Public Works, is currently being addressed due to a legal requirement to vacate the premises by July 2005.

The application for family reunification has been investigated by the Refugee Applications Commissioner as required by Section 18 of the Refugee Act, 1996 as amended. A report on the application has recently been submitted by the commissioner to my Department and it is being considered at present. A decision on the application will be made shortly.
