Jan O'Sullivan

Question:

185 Ms O'Sullivan asked the Minister for Education and Science the cause of the delays involved in building the new school to replace the existing St. James's national school in Durrus, County Cork, for which a commitment was given in a pre-election announcement. [28925/03]

The proposed large scale building project for St. James's national school is listed in section 6 of the 2003 schools building programme. The list is published on my Department's website at www.education.ie The proposed project is at stage 4-5 of architectural planning, pre-tender documentation stage, of architectural planning. My Department has assigned it a three rating in accordance with the published criteria for prioritising large scale projects.

I intend to publish details of the 2004 schools building programme by early January at the latest. It will clarify what progress is planned for projects during 2004.
