Vol. 576 No. 3

Written Answers. - Court Procedures.

Finian McGrath

Question:

123 Mr. F. McGrath asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if he will consider proposals for interviewing in secure venues, Garda escorts to court appearances and separate and secure areas for witnesses in order to ensure the maximum confidence and safety in the justice system. [29560/03]

The questions raised by the Deputy on the safety of witnesses in criminal cases will undoubtedly be among the issues to be considered by the Joint Committee on Justice, Equality, Defence and Women's Rights which is receiving submissions from interested parties to assist it in a review of the criminal justice system arising out of public concern at recent developments.

I am sure the Deputy will appreciate that it would not be proper for me to pre-empt any proposals which the joint committee may wish to make on the matters raised by the Deputy.
