Vol. 576 No. 3

Written Answers. - Special Educational Needs.

Fergus O'Dowd

Question:

75 Mr. O'Dowd asked the Minister for Education and Science the reason a person (details supplied) in County Louth has not been offered a place in the special education unit in Marymount National School, Drogheda, County Louth; and the education facilities his Department will now make available to this person. [29547/03]

I understand that the parents of the child in question applied to enrol the child in Marymount National School from September 2004 and that no vacancy exists at present. I have asked my Department's inspectorate to investigate the matter with a view to securing an appropriate placement for the child. My officials have spoken with the child's parents recently and the family has been provided with an application form for home tuition as an interim arrangement. This will be processed immediately following receipt. My officials will continue to liaise with the family.
