Vol. 576 No. 5

Written Answers. - Sunday Trading.

David Stanton

Question:

147 Mr. Stanton asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment the way in which Sunday trading has expanded and developed in recent years; her estimate of the numbers working and trading on Sundays and the volume and value of Sunday trading; her views on same; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [29927/03]

I understand that official statistics in relation to Sunday working and trading in Ireland are not available. It is clear from casual observation that there has been an increase in recent years in the level of economic activity carried out on Sundays and, provided that all relevant employees' rights are respected, I have no difficulty with this.

Question No. 148 answered with Question No. 72.
