Question:

125 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Finance the property disposals which have occurred under the recent initiative to improve usage of State property; and the property acquisitions which have taken place over the same period. [30630/03]

To date the initiative has produced a number of properties deemed suitable for disposal-redevelopment.

These are as follows: (a) Devereaux Hotel, which has been recently sold; (b) Lad Lane, Baggot St., formerly the maintenance depot for the building maintenance services of Office of Public Works: it is intended to sell this property on the open market, at the appropriate time; (c) (1) St. Johns Road-Military Road: a planning application was submitted to Dublin City Council on 12 June 2003 for a mixed use development, on a site jointly owned by Office of Public Works and Eircom, at St. John's Road West-Military Road near Heuston Station; (2) In addition to the John's Road West-Military Road planning application, an application will be submitted, before year end, for a mixed use development, on an adjacent site, wholly owned by State bodies, at Military Road-John's Road; (d) Infirmary Road East, which was formerly used by the Department of Defence: In accordance with a Government decision it has been decided to develop it for affordable housing; (e) Jamestown Road, Inchicore, currently the location for Office of Public Works's central engineering workshop. This site also will be used for affordable housing purposes; (f) Tallaght Garda station; plans are being drawn up to maximise the use of this site; and (g) a number of smaller properties, for example, former Garda stations have been disposed of or are in the process of being disposed of.

It had been planned to bring forward a list of other properties for disposal or development over the next 12 months. However, the list falls to be reviewed in the light of the recent announcement on decentralisation. The following sites were purchased during the same period: (a) Lord Edward St., Ballina – Garda station site and (b) Oranmore, County Galway – site for BIM. The properties leased during the same period are included in the attached list:
