There are constraints on public sector numbers. Since my response to the Deputy's parliamentary Question No. 694 of 30 September 2003, I have given approval for the recruitment of an additional five psychologists for the National Educational Psychological Service, in the current school year.
Upon appointment to NEPS, these additional psychologists will be assigned to regions with the greatest priority of need. Schools that do not have access to NEPS services may avail of the scheme for commissioning psychological assessments, details of which may be found on my Department's website.
