Vol. 577 No. 1

Written Answers. - School Staffing.

Jim O'Keeffe

Question:

164 Mr. J. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Education and Science if his attention has been drawn to a problem surrounding the appointment of a whole time temporary special needs assistant for a person at a school (details supplied) in County Cork arising from delays within his Department; and if the person selected can now transfer from their existing special needs position as a whole time temporary appointment in west Cork. [30632/03]

A full-time special needs assistant post was allocated to the school mentioned by the Deputy on 28 October 2003. Responsibility for filling the post in question rests with the school authorities.

If the person appointed to the post in question has held a similar post in another school from the commencement of the school year and transfers to the school mentioned by the Deputy, without a break in service, such person is entitled to continue on the same point on the salary scale as he or she enjoyed in the previous employment.
