Question:

189 Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if his attention has been drawn to the fact that the annual report 2002 of Land Registry/Registry of Deeds does not contain the address, telephone number, e-mail address or website of Land Registry Waterford; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [30585/03]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 188 and 189 together.

I can inform the Deputy that, for management and administrative purposes, the Land Registry is divided into geographic regions which are based in four locations. The Registry of Deeds, which forms part of the overall organisation, is based in a fifth location. The various offices operate seamlessly as one homogenous unit and none is singled out for separate mention in the annual report unless something unique to that office or region happened during a particular year.

The annual report for the Land Registry and the Registry of Deeds is a summary on the main activities of the organisation during 2002. The annual report focuses on reporting how the organisation performed on the high level objectives agreed for the organisation and published in the organisation's Statement of Strategy and Business Plan 2002 – 2005. This approach has been acknowledged as desirable and logical, that is, organisations consult widely among stakeholders, customers and staff prior to publishing their business strategy and then regularly report on progress.

Internally within the organisation, each section and division prepares its own strategy for the year and regularly reports on progress. A general review is undertaken at the end of the year in the annual report. The Deputy will have noted from the annual report that 2002 was a year in which the Land Registry and the Registry of Deeds performed very well.

An information guide for the benefit of customers of the registries is regularly published and was most recently updated in November 2002. This publication contains the full list of names, addresses, telephone numbers, fax numbers and e-mail addresses of all staff and the services for which they have responsibility in the various offices. A single website addresswww.landregistry.ie applies to all offices and locations within the organisation.
