204 Mr. Deasy asked the Minister for the Environment Heritage and Local Government the grant allocations under the local improvement scheme for each local authority in each of the past five years; the calculation which is used to ensure an equal distribution of the funding throughout the local authority areas; if he will increase the amount allocated to Waterford City and County Council in view of the level of applications on hand; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Details of payments to each local authority under the local improvement scheme, LIS, in each of the past five years are outlined below.

Funding for the local improvement scheme is considered in the context of the overall grant allocations for non-national roads and the number of LIS applications on hands in each county at the end of the previous year. I intend to announce details of the 2004 non-national road grant allocations, including allocations under the local improvement scheme, early in the new year.
