Vol. 577 No. 3

Written Answers. - Marina Development.

Martin Ferris

Question:

378 Mr. Ferris asked the Minister for Communications, Marine and Natural Resources if his attention has been drawn to the fact that a company (details supplied) which has invested ?3.4 million to develop a 406 berth marina at Fahan, Lough Swilly, is being discriminated against by his Department and by Donegal County Council, due to the council's own plans to build two marinas within a three mile radius of the proposed Fahan site; and if his Department will assist the company to complete the Fahan marina project. [31189/03]

In March 2002, Figary Water Sports Development Company Limited submitted an application for funding towards the development of a marina at Fahan, County Donegal under the marine tourism grants scheme of the national development plan. As there was no funding available for this grant scheme in 2003, no projects were approved for funding in Donegal or elsewhere. My Department is not in a position to assist any project under the marine tourism grants scheme in 2004 as there is no provision for the scheme in the 2004 Estimates.
