Vol. 577 No. 3

Written Answers. - Rail Services.

Willie Penrose

Question:

500 Mr. Penrose asked the Minister for Transport if his Department and Iarnród Éireann have proposals to increase the capacity on the line between Connolly Station and Mullingar and the Sligo bound train; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [31401/03]

I am informed by Iarnród Éireann that as from yesterday, Monday, 14 December 2003, the capacity available to commuters travelling to and from Dublin on the Maynooth, Mullingar, and Longford line will be increased by 25%. This is being achieved through the introduction of new railcars on the route. Iarnród Éireann also informs me that over the next four years, it will be adding more new carriages to the fleet and by 2007 all of the old rolling stock is planned to be out of service.
