Vol. 577 No. 3

Written Answers. - Visa Applications.

Tony Gregory

Question:

502 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the position regarding the application for a student visa by a person (details supplied) supported by a sponsoring family here; if refused, the reasons for refusal in this instance; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [30708/03]

The person in question made an application for a study visa in October 2003. The application was refused because it had not been established, on the basis of the documentation supplied to my Department, that the applicant would observe the conditions of the visa. In particular it was felt that the applicant had not displayed evidence of his obligations to return home following his proposed six month course of study. It was noted that although the applicant stated on his visa application form that he was in full-time employment, no evidence confirming this fact, or indeed whether he had any resources of his own, was submitted with his visa application.

It is open to the applicant to appeal against the refusal by writing to the visa appeals officer in my Department.

Brendan Howlin

Question:

503 Mr. Howlin asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform further to correspondence to which no full reply has been received from his Department, the position regarding the applications of persons (details supplied) in County Wexford for permission to live and work here and for Irish citizenship; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [30709/03]

The general immigration division of my Department has recently been in correspondence with the persons concerned. On receipt of the documentation requested the applications will be fully considered.
