560 Mr. Gilmore asked the Minister for the Environment Heritage and Local Government the number in respect of the sections of his Department or boards or agencies operating under the aegis of his Department, it is proposed to decentralise which are currently housed in leased office space or premises; the annual amount paid in rent in each case; when the lease runs out in each case; if there are financial penalties involved in the breaking of the lease in each case; and if he will make a statement on the matter. 561 Mr. Kenny asked the Minister for the Environment Heritage and Local Government the numbers employed by category and grade in his Department in which decentralisation is involved; the current numbers by grade in each office decentralised to date; and if he will make a statement on the matter. I propose to take Questions Nos. 560 and 561 together.

My Department has 2,266 staff, of which 904 are industrial workers. This total is made up of 1,137 staff in 22 separate locations in Dublin, 80 staff in Ballina, 73 staff in Shannon and the balance in various field locations. Approximately 880 of the total, including some 800 industrial staff who deal with operational aspects of the built heritage, are due to transfer shortly to the Office of Public Works. Details of the numbers of staff who will move to Wexford, New Ross, Waterford and Kilkenny are to be found in table three of the summary of the 2004 budget measures announced by the Minister for Finance on 3 December 2003. Having regard to the above, the following tables set out the present position:

Some 167.5 staff employed in the State agencies under the aegis of my Department are due to be decentralised. I do not have details of the accommodation arrangements of the bodies. Information in relation to leases and rents is a matter for the Office of Public Works.
