Vol. 577 No. 3

Written Answers. - Disadvantaged Status.

Ruairí Quinn

Question:

79 Mr. Quinn asked the Minister for Education and Science the position regarding his consideration of the report on teaching supply and staffing in disadvantaged communities; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [30927/03]

The report on teacher supply and staffing in disadvantaged settings has been submitted to me by the statutory educational disadvantage committee. It is currently under consideration in the light of the ongoing work of the committee. One of my key concerns in tackling disadvantage is to improve the level of integration between the various educational disadvantage programmes operated by my Department. I have requested the committee to undertake a root and branch review of all programmes to ensure optimum synergy and integration in them. The committee is engaged in this review.
