Vol. 577 No. 4

Written Answers. - Mayo Landslide.

Michael Ring

Question:

114 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the funding which has been made available from his Department to help persons affected by the landslide in north County Mayo; and the help available for these persons. [31460/03]

When the Taoiseach visited the area on 23 October 2003, he was informed that there were three problems to be addressed: damage to roads and bridges – repair works have been carried out; hardship caused by the landslide – funding of €300,000 was provided by the Government to the Red Cross to alleviate hardship; and safety and security of the mountain – the matter is being addressed by the local authority in conjunction with the Department of the Environment, Heritage and Local Government.

In the context of the above, my Department has not made funds available relating to the implications of the landslide in north County Mayo.
