Vol. 577 No. 5

Written Answers. - Road Network.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

161 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Transport the extent to which the line for the new road from Kilcullen to Waterford, via Moone and Timolin, County Kildare has been determined; the negotiations that have taken place; the current position in view of his Department's answers on previous occasions; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [31887/03]

The planning, design and implementation of national road development projects, including the acquisition of the necessary land, is a matter for the National Roads Authority and the relevant local authorities. In October the compulsory purchase orders and environmental impact studies for the northern section, which is 46 km in length, were published. An oral hearing may be held early in 2004. A CPO and EIS for the southern section are expected to be completed in early 2004.
