Vol. 577 No. 5

Written Answers. - Driving Tests.

Denis Naughten

Question:

163 Mr. Naughten asked the Minister for Transport, further to Parliamentary Question No. 1056 of 30 September, his plans to amend the driving test report sheet to provide space for the provision of a detailed breakdown of the nature of driving faults; if his Department has considered such a provision; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [31791/03]

As I indicated in the reply on 30 September, the new driving test report was introduced in February 2002 as a customer service initiative to make the report more easily understood by driving test candidates. It grades faults according to their seriousness under various headings and aspects of driving. In comparison with the former report sheet it provides more information on the aspect of driving where a fault is incurred. Driver testers also use the report as a marking sheet and faults are recorded as they occur during the test. Pass or failure is dependent on the number and type of faults incurred and they are clearly indicated on the report sheet. The new report sheet was positively received. At present I do not propose to amend the report sheet but the layout and content will be kept under review.
