Vol. 577 No. 5

Written Answers. - Light Rail Project.

Charlie O'Connor

Question:

171 Mr. O'Connor asked the Minister for Transport if his attention has been drawn to the strong support for plans to extend the Tallaght Luas project to Saggart with additional stops at Fettercairn, Brookfield, City West Business Park and City West Hotel; his views on the strong wish of the local community that such a proposal would be properly evaluated and that a number of business interests in the area have agreed to co-fund a feasibility study to determine its viability; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [31927/03]

Public reaction to the introduction of Luas has been positive. I am aware that its services are eagerly awaited by the people of Tallaght and persons who live along the routes that it will serve.

The RPA has informed me that it has no plans to extend the line from the Square in Tallaght to Saggart with the additional stops. It will keep the situation under review in line with the DTO's strategy document, A Platform for Change.
