Vol. 577 No. 5

Written Answers. - National Community Games.

Joan Burton

Question:

19 Ms Burton asked the Minister for Arts, Sport and Tourism if he will make a statement on the outcome of his meeting on 19 November 2003 with the representatives of the National Community Games. [31554/03]

I met representatives of the ESB National Community Games in my Department on Wednesday, 19 November 2003.

We had a useful exchange of ideas on the provision of a permanent home for the community games. I indicated my desire to help ensure that facilities continue to be available in Mosney to host the community games at least in the short-term and certainly next year and hopefully the following year.

Arising from the meeting my Department has been in contact with the reception and integration agency – RIA – in relation to the various matters raised by the delegation. On receipt of a report on the outcome of these contacts I will consider the matter further and will report back to the community games organisation. The RIA has been supportive of the games and has facilitated the smooth running of the events with the help and involvement of its staff and through financial support.

Question No. 20 answered with Question No. 14.
