Vol. 578 No. 4

Adjournment Debate Matters.

I wish to advise the House of the following matters in respect of which notice has been given under Standing Order 21 and the name of the Member in each case: (1) Deputy Pat Breen — the need to intervene or appoint a mediator to settle the dispute in Clare local employment services; (2) Deputy O'Connor — the need for immediate action to be taken in respect of the problems at St. Killian's national school, Kingswood Heights, Tallaght, Dublin 24; (3) Deputy Cowley — the case of a child (details supplied) who is unable to speak properly due to the failure to provide speech and language therapy; (4) Deputy Boyle — the need for the Minister to address the loss of public confidence in the planning system as shown by the recent decision of An Bord Pleanála regarding a national toxic waste incinerator whereby reasons for rejection of this project as recommended by a senior inspector of the board, who presided over the longest continuous planning oral hearing in the history of the State, were completely ignored by the board, which announced a decision based not on any sound planning grounds, because there are none, but solely because incineration as a waste disposal method is stated Government policy and because incinerators must be constructed on foot of this policy and, furthermore, that the Minister himself has helped bring about such circumstances in which decisions of this type are made in this way by engaging in political intimidation by threatening to undermine the board by proposing a national infrastructure board; (5) Deputy Durkan — the reduction of the social welfare entitlements of a person (details supplied) in County Kildare; (6) Deputy Ó Caoláin — the urgent need for measures to protect the health of the Irish public and to safeguard the future of the Irish poultry industry from the threat of the avian flu virus.

The matters raised by Deputies Pat Breen, O'Connor, Cowley and Durkan have been selected for discussion.
