Dáil Éireann debate -
Wednesday, 13 Dec 2006

Vol. 629 No. 4

Requests to move Adjournment of Dáil under Standing Order 31.

Before coming to the Order of Business I propose to deal with a number of notices under Standing Order 31.

I seek the adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 31 to discuss the following specific and important matter of public interest that requires urgent attention: the urgent need to include the N72 Mallow relief road in the NRA's 2007 programme, in view of the fact that Mallow town has a hub status and that planning and design for the project was completed in 2006.

I seek the adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 31 to debate a matter of major national and local importance, namely, the need for Government to provide a national waste waiver scheme for all low income households, which would be administered through the social welfare scheme, in view of the disgraceful ten working days notice given to Mayo people as regards the cessation of the local authority-provided refuse collection system, with no provision whatsoever for a waiver for older and impoverished people.

I seek the adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 31 to discuss a matter of urgent importance: in the light of the severe flooding in the Shannon and Suck basins, there is an immediate need for the Government to make the Army available to provide access to communities currently isolated, for the HSE to relocate four-wheel drive ambulances to local bases, to provide emergency funds to local authorities to improve the limited access that is available in some areas and for funds to be put in place in 2007 to maintain the river and raise roads which are prone to flooding.

Having considered the matters raised, they are not in order under Standing Order 31.
