Vol. 677 No. 2

Requests to move Adjournment of Dáil under Standing Order 32.

Before coming to the Order of Business I propose to deal with a number of notices under Standing Order 32. I will call on the Deputies in the order in which their matters were submitted to the Ceann Comhairle's office. I call Deputy Bannon. As láthair.

A Deputy

Give him a chance.

I call Deputy Finian McGrath.

(Interruptions).

Will I wait for Deputy Bannon or proceed?

I will move on if Deputy Finian McGrath is not available.

I seek the adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 32 to discuss an issue of national importance and concern, namely, the urgent need to support the ICTU's social solidarity pact as a way to resolve our economic crisis and to ensure that the burden is shared fairly across society where we prioritise the protection of people's jobs, pensions and homes, get the unemployed back to work and ensure that the weakest are protected. That is an option for the Government. It wants solutions. It should examine that as a solution.

I seek the adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 32 to raise a matter of national importance, namely, the need for the Government to recognise the enormous work carried out by carers and to proceed with the national carer's strategy as soon as possible. The decision to abandon drafting that strategy is short-sighted and shameful.

I call Deputy Bannon.

(Interruptions).

I seek the adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 32 to raise a matter of national importance, namely, the threat to our economic welfare posed by the Taoiseach's admission that unemployment figures could exceed 450,000 before the end of the year and the lack of provision by the Government to get the workforce back into employment or training.

It is hard enough to get Deputy Bannon to work.

Having considered the matters raised, they are not in order under Standing Order 32.
