Vol. 691 No. 4

Requests to move Adjournment of Dáil under Standing Order 32.

Before coming to the Order of Business, I propose to deal with a number of notices under Standing Order 32. I will call on the Deputies in the order in which they submitted their notices to my office.

I seek the adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 32 to raise a matter of national importance, namely, the closure of the Ballyloughran Leisure Centre in Lisselton which will be a disaster for the entire north Kerry community and result in the loss of at least 17 jobs and an important social outlet for the surrounding communities as well as adding to already high unemployment levels; and its consequences for the social life of hundreds of young people in north Kerry and further afield.

I seek the adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 32 to raise a matter of local and national importance, namely, the urgent need for the Taoiseach and his Department to organise much needed counselling and medical services to the families of the victims of the Stardust tragedy without delay. To date, the families have not received any counselling or support despite promises made by the Government in February this year in a motion before this House to address this wrong. I urgently ask the Taoiseach to deal with this.

I seek the adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 32 to raise a matter of national importance, namely, the threat to hard-pressed families' and children's well-being posed by the ESRI's call for a 20% cut in child benefit.

Having considered the matters raised, they are not in order under Standing Order 32.
