Dáil Éireann debate -
Thursday, 4 Feb 2010

Vol. 701 No. 2

Requests to move Adjournment of Dáil under Standing Order 32.

Before coming to the Order of Business I propose to deal with a number of notices under Standing Order 32. I call on the Deputies who are offering.

I seek the adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 32 to debate the following urgent matter: the need for the Minister for Health and Children and the Minister of State, Deputy Moloney, to support all people with a disability; the need for actions and services for the 4,200 people with intellectual disabilities living in outdated institutions; for protection from neglect and abuse, and quality services for all people with disability; the need for highest standards in the supervision of services and for protection from sexual abuse, particularly in residential and day care service; and detailed accountability in respect of spending funds, the emphasis to be put on the person with the disability.

I seek the adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 32 to debate the following matter of local and national importance: the urgent need for the Minister for Education and Science and the Minister for Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs to reverse immediately the decision they made to cut funding for community projects throughout the country and in my constituency of Dublin north east. Two projects that have been affected are Sphere 17, which supports young people and helps them develop, and the RASP Project based in Dublin 17, which helps people coming from a drug misuse background. They have suffered cruelly under these major cuts. I ask the Government to reverse these cruel cutbacks, in light of the negative effect that the they will have on the individuals, the families and the communities concerned.

Having considered the matters raised, they are not in order under Standing Order 32.
