Adjournment Debate Matters

I wish to advise the House of the following matters in respect of which notice has been given under Standing Order 21 and the name of the Member in each case: (1) Deputy Frank Feighan — to ask the Minister for Education and Skills to explore the possibility of providing a third level education college for Carrick-on-Shannon given that it is now a regional town; (2) Deputy Kathleen Lynch — to discuss the proposed move of the prosthetic clinic from St. Mary's Orthopaedic Hospital, Cork; (3) Deputy Ulick Burke — the urgent need for the Minister for Education and Skills, Deputy Coughlan, to indicate when St. Catherine's national school, Aughrim, County Galway, will be given the go-ahead for the construction of a new school, given that the classroom sizes are one third the size of the regular classrooms in other national schools, and that there is now a very serious health and safety issue arising from overcrowding and the lack of appropriate facilities; (4) Deputy Denis Naughten — the need for the Minister for Justice and Law Reform to expedite Garda clearance for FÁS CE participants working with elderly health care services; (5) Deputy James Bannon — the need for the Minister for Justice and Law Reform to ensure that a person who is severely brain-damaged following a car accident and requires urgent treatment will be transferred to the care of the Department of Health and Children; (6) Deputy Thomas P. Broughan — the need for the Minister for Justice and Law Reform to report to Dáil Éireann on whether he is considering changing the law in relation to the illegal occupation of property in particular where clear offers of accommodation have been made to the illegal occupiers and if he is considering any other measures to address the security, environmental and other impacts of an illegal occupation; if the Minister is aware of the illegal occupation of development lands in a location (details supplied) that is causing serious distress to local residents and householders, many of whom are paying large mortgages; and if he will make a statement on the matter; (7) Deputy Joe McHugh — to consider the report of investigation into the sinking of the FV Strath Marie off Inishowen Head, County Donegal, on 14 March 2008; if the Minister is satisfied with relevant concerns raised by family members; and if he will make a statement on the matter; (8) Deputy Michael McGrath — that the Department of Education and Skills confirm the position regarding the appointment of a building contractor and the commencement of construction work on the new school building for Ballygarvan national school, County Cork; (9) Deputy Pat Breen — to discuss the damage caused to the Fergus embankments in County Clare; (10) Deputy Seymour Crawford — to raise the issue of the crisis in the Cavan-Monaghan general hospital group, especially the fact that people with critical illness cannot get any information regarding their appointments; (11) Deputy Joe Costello — the need for the Minister for Transport to seek to resolve the industrial dispute at Aer Lingus; (12) Deputy Paul Kehoe — that the cuts by the Department of Education and Skills affecting a number of special needs assistants allocated to schools working with children with autism in specialised units be reversed. A large public march was held in Enniscorthy, County Wexford, last weekend as parents and members of the local community are incensed by the cuts affecting the most vulnerable in society and depriving them of the right to equality in education; (13) Deputy Dan Neville — the increase of 25% in suicide rates in 2009; (14) Deputy Kieran O’Donnell — to call on the Minister for Education and Skills to make a statement on the current status of funding for the provision of a new site and new school buildings for Gaelscoil Ó Doghair, Castletroy, County Limerick, roll No. 20148U; (15) Deputy Seán Barrett — the alleged use of Irish passports in incidents (details supplied); (16) Deputy David Stanton — the need to upgrade the water supply in Cobh, County Cork, which does not meet European Union standards due to the high levels of contamination due to lead pipes; if he has received a request from Cork County Council for funding to carry out the necessary remedial work; and whether he will make a statement on the matter; (17) Deputy Jimmy Deenihan — the urgent need to issue 51 temporary fishing licences to trawlers along the south-west coast to allow them time to comply with a COC brought in by former Minister for the Environment and Local Government, Deputy Noel Dempsey, in 2007, as these fishermen are unable to fish at the moment and are not eligible for social welfare; and (18) Deputy Tom Sheahan — the processing of disability allowance claims.

The matters raised by Deputies Pat Breen, Kathleen Lynch, Seán Barrett and Tom Sheahan have been selected for discussion.
