Vol. 737 No. 2

Requests to move Adjournment of Dáil under Standing Order 32

Before coming to the Order of Business, I propose to deal with two notices under Standing Order 32.

Ba mhaith liom an Dáil a chur ar athló faoi Bhun Ordú 32 chun déileáil le gné rí-thábhachtach, namely, the failure of the Government to consider amending the Residential Institutions Redress Act 2002 to give recognition to the children who suffered from unnecessary illness, neglect and death due to indifference, incompetence, sectarianism and complicity of the State; and the need to investigate the fact that at least 219 children died between 1922 and 1949 in Bethany Home, Dublin, and to further acknowledge the State's failure to save the children, especially the remaining survivors, from the cruelty perpetrated against them.

I seek the adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 32 to discuss a matter of major public importance, namely, the imminent threat of compulsory statutory redundancies among a significant number of workers at Cavtat Taverns Limited, which runs Signature Bars at Dublin Airport and which is owned by Mr. Donie Cassidy Jr., and the threatened imposition of pay cuts of up to 40% for those workers remaining, many of whom have served for decades in the bars at the airport, and the devastating consequences for their families.

Having considered the matters raised, I do not consider them to be in order under Standing Order 32.
