Address by President of the European Parliament: Motion

I move:

That, notwithstanding anything in Standing Orders, and unless the Dáil shall otherwise order—

(1) the Dáil on its rising on Wednesday, 3rd October, 2012, shall adjourn until 10.30 a.m. on Thursday, 4th October, 2012, whereupon Dáil Éireann shall sit in Committee to welcome the visit to Ireland of H.E. Mr. Martin Schulz, President of the European Parliament, and President Schulz shall be invited to address the Committee of the whole Dáil; and

(2) the arrangements shall be as follows:

(a) the Ceann Comhairle shall make a statement welcoming the President;

(b) the Taoiseach shall be called upon to make a statement which shall not exceed 15 minutes;

(c) President Schulz shall be called upon to deliver an address which shall not exceed 15 minutes;

(d) the Minister of State with responsibility for European Affairs, Lucinda Creighton T.D., shall be called upon to make a statement which shall not exceed 10 minutes;

(e) the leaders of Fianna Fáil, Sinn Féin and the Technical Group, or a person nominated in their stead, who shall be called upon in that order, shall make a statement which shall not exceed 10 minutes in each case, and such members may share their time;

(f) the Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade shall be called upon to make a statement in reply which shall not exceed 10 minutes; and

(g) the sitting shall be suspended at 12 noon, or on the conclusion of the statement by the Tánaiste, whichever is the earlier, for 30 minutes, whereupon the ordinary routine of business shall recommence with Leaders’ Questions.
