Topical Issue Matters

I wish to advise the House of the following matters in respect of which notice has been given under Standing Order 27A and the name of the Member in each case: (1) Deputy Simon Harris - the need for the development of a leaving certificate course in computer programming and information technology; (2) Deputy John Browne - the ongoing fishing dispute at Kilmore Quay, County Wexford; (3) Deputy Michael McNamara -- the River Shannon water extraction plan; (4) Deputy Mary Lou McDonald - the decision by a majority of ESB union members to vote for strike action; (5) Deputy Maureen O'Sullivan - supported temporary accommodation and the current position in addressing homelessness in the Dublin area; (6) Deputy Ciara Conway - the need to fill vacancies in the speech and language therapy services to the rehabilitation centre St. Patrick's Hospital and community care in Waterford city; (7) Deputy Seán Kenny - disruption of Dublin DART services on Tuesday morning, 19 November 2013, by a truck striking a railway bridge at Clontarf; (8) Deputy Regina Doherty - the discrepancy in rent allowance and supplements limits awarded in areas of County Meath; (9) Deputy Martin Ferris - the recent crisis within the mixed fishery fleet in area 7, off the coast of Wexford, about inadequate quota and how the Government proposed to deal with it; (10) Deputy Michael Lowry - the cancellation of a transfer agreement between local authority staff and the Garda vetting unit; (11) Deputy Patrick Nulty - the need to address record overcrowding at Connolly hospital in Blanchardstown; (12) Deputy Denis Naughten - the need for the Minister for Communications, Energy and Natural Resources to outline the measures he intends to take to avert threatened strike action in the ESB; (13) Deputy Michael Moynihan - the need for the Minister for Communications, Energy and Natural Resources to discuss the EirGrid Grid Link project and its planning process; (14) Deputy Willie O'Dea - the need for the Minister for Social Protection to discuss the issue of food poverty in Dublin; (15) Deputy Marcella Corcoran Kennedy - challenges facing the building industry and the provision of grant aid for the installation of renewable energy products to incentivise the industry; (16) Deputy Barry Cowen - to ask the Minister of State with responsibility for housing to discuss the demolition of certain ghost estates; (17) Deputy Billy Kelleher - the need for the Minister for Health to provide an update on the current status of the 35 proposed primary care centres announced in July 2012; (18) Deputy Robert Troy - the need for the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport to address the safety issues that arise from overcrowding on the Dublin-Sligo train service; and (19) Deputy Seán Conlan - the lack of domestic violence refuges in counties Cavan and Monaghan where two out of three women who apply for domestic abuse accommodation are refused because of the lack of accommodation.

The matters raised by Deputies John Browne and Martin Ferris; Regina Doherty; Michael McNamara; and Michael Lowry have been selected for discussion.
