Business of Joint Committee

Apologies have been received from Deputy Kehoe. In the context of the current Covid-19 restrictions, microphones in the committee room are for members. If non-members wish to contribute, they will be facilitated after committee members. Members are requested to ensure that, for the duration of the meeting, their mobile phones are completely turned off or switched to airplane, safe or flight mode, depending on the device. It is not sufficient to leave them in silent mode as that would interfere with the broadcasting system. I remind members of the long-standing parliamentary practice to the effect that they should not comment on, criticise or make charges against any person outside the Houses or an official by name or in such a way as to make him or her identifiable.

On the agenda today is the impact of Brexit on the agri-food industry. The meeting will comprise two sessions. In the first, we will hear from representatives of the Irish Farmers Association, IFA, and the Irish Natura and Hill Farmers Association, INHFA, who are joining us remotely. The second session will have representatives from the Irish Co-operative Organisation Society, ICOS, Dairy Industry Ireland and Meat Industry Ireland. The meeting will be suspended for five minutes between each slot to allow the desks to be sanitised. In this regard, I remind members that there are sanitisation products throughout the room that should be used when taking or vacating a seat.
