JOINT COMMITTEE ON ARTS, SPORT, TOURISM, COMMUNITY, RURAL AND GAELTACHT AFFAIRS debate -

Vol. 1 No. 1

Election of Chairman.

Clerk to the Committee

The first item on the agenda is the election of a chairperson. I ask for nominations.

I propose Deputy Cecilia Keaveney.

I second that proposal.

Clerk to the Committee

As there are no other nominations, I call on Deputy Keaveney to take the Chair.

Deputy Cecilia Keaveney took the Chair.

I thank members of the committee for electing me. It is a great honour to be selected as Chairman. It is also a great honour to be elected unanimously. I hope we will continue to be as unanimous.

Is cúis áthais agus sásaimh dom an ceapachán seo. Cé go bhuil réim mhór ábhar le scrúdú ag an gcomhchoiste beidh áit thábhachtach ag an nGaeilge agus ag an nGaeltacht in imeachtaí an choiste, agus sin mar is ceart agus is cóir.

The committee has a wide remit. I hope a sense of common purpose and co-operation will enable us to discharge our obligations. We have a huge opportunity to carry out a worthwhile programme under our remit.

The Joint Committee went into private session at 2.35 p.m. and adjourned at 3.15 p.m. sine die.
