Business of Joint Committee

The minutes of the meeting of 27 October have been circulated. Are they agreed?

A copy of the list of correspondence has been circulated. No. 531 is an e-mail from Mr. Frank Cullen from National Newspapers of Ireland seeking a meeting with the committee on the topic of public broadcasting and ensuring fair competition in the digital age. I suggest that we invite representatives of the organisation before us to listen to their views. Is it agreed to meet them on 24 November? Agreed. Is it agreed to note the correspondence? Agreed.

I request that we invite Mr. Conal Henry of e|net, which is charged with rolling out broadband across the country, to update us on progress. There are considerable delays in the roll-out of broadband in my part of the country. If e|net has difficulties, it should point them out to the committee to determine whether there is something it can do about them.

Is that agreed? Agreed. We will get the clerk to contact the company. It will probably be January when we meet it.

After Christmas.

Sitting suspended at 9.54 a.m. and resumed at 9.56 a.m.
