Vol. 1 No. 1

Election of Chairman.

Clerk to the Committee

As we have a quorum I call the meeting to order. I remind Members we are in public session and the first item on the agenda is the election of the chairperson. May I have nominations for the position?

I propose Deputy Tony Killeen.

I second that.

Deputy Tony Killeen took the Chair.

I would like to thank members for electing me. I look forward to a constructive time with the committee on all fronts. Enormous work must be done. It is a great honour to be Chairman and I intend to accommodate the maximum range of views. I would very much like that the work of the committee should be as constructive as possible. All of us have requirements from a party perspective but there is a tremendous work to be done in the field of education and I would like to think the committee will be a positive influence in terms of policy and putting the most important issues to the fore. I look forward to working in co-operation with all of you.

The next item on the agenda is the election of a vice-chairperson. I call for nominations for the position.
