JOINT COMMITTEE ON FOREIGN AFFAIRS debate -
Tuesday, 25 Nov 2003

Vol. 1 No. 8

Business of Joint Committee.

I now wish to deal with correspondence from the Sub-committee on European Scrutiny. The latter has examined two proposals falling within the remit of the Department of Foreign Affairs, namely, COM (2003) 581, repealing a previous regulation preventing the supply of certain goods to Libya, and COM (2003) 626, concerning certain restrictive measures in respect of Liberia. The sub-committee has recommended no further scrutiny of these proposals is necessary. Is that agreed? Agreed.

Should we look at the changes?

It appears to be lifting sanctions.

Yes, that is fine.

The sub-committee has asked us to take note of CFSP (2003) 735 measures - a common Council position concerning restrictive measures on Iraq. The details of these measures can be found in the EU scrutiny material circulated with the agenda. Deputy M. Higgins: That should be dealt with at the next meeting. Is a summary available?

There is a summary.

The joint committee adjourned at 4.20 p.m.sine die.
